Somali Fathers: Stronger Today, Brighter Futures Tomorrow

A new mental health and wellbeing support project for Somali fathers and male carers of children with SEND in South Ealing and Acton, funded by Public Health Ealing Council.

About the project

The Voices for SEND Support Network is delivering a new mental health and wellbeing support project for Somali fathers and male carers of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in South Ealing and Acton.

The project recognises that Somali fathers can face significant pressures, including caring responsibilities, stress, isolation, displacement trauma, financial pressures and cultural stigma around mental health. Many may also feel uncomfortable accessing traditional mental health services.

Our aim is to create a safe, welcoming and culturally sensitive space where fathers can talk openly, support one another and access help early.

What we offer

The project provides:

  • Café-based outreach sessions in South Ealing and Acton
  • Peer-led Somali fathers' support circles
  • Psychoeducation workshops in Somali and English
  • Culturally tailored information and resources, including leaflets, audio and video
  • Supported referrals to NHS and local mental health services where appropriate

"Our community café-based approach brings support into familiar, informal spaces where conversations can happen naturally. It is about real conversations, real support and real change."

Who can join?

Somali fathers & male carers of children with SEND Aged 25–65 South Ealing or Acton

The programme is designed for those experiencing stress, isolation or low wellbeing — particularly fathers who are not currently accessing formal mental health services.

It's OK to talk

Your wellbeing matters. Seeking support, connecting with other fathers and talking about the pressures you are experiencing can help build stronger fathers, stronger families and brighter futures for our children.

Same Community. Same Conversations. A Healthier Tomorrow.
